The Violet Green Swallows Tachycineta thalassina is a very beautifully colored bird. The top is a purplish green and the belly is white. They have a very big range, from Alaska to western Canada, through most of the Midwest to California and as far south as Mexico. These birds feed on insects such as mosquitoes, as we all witnessed yesterday. These swallows can adapt to a lot of different environments. The Violet green swallows live in packs sometimes with other swallow species. They nest in just about anything natural or land maid. Alot of the times they are some of the first birds to arive after winter.
