Bearberry or when the leaves are mixed with tobacco or any other herb it is known as Kinnikinnik, scientifically known as Arctostaphylos uva-ursi. Bearberrys grow in large masses with twisted stems which can grow to be about 6 inches tall that have oval leathery dark green leaves 1inch long, little pinkish bell shaped flowers that bloom in spring and dark red berries. The berries are loved by bears but not really by humans. The leaves can be picked in late summer and dyed for treated many things like kidney stones diseases that have to do with urinary system and make the womb got back to the normal size after a pregnancy. If you take to much of the leaves your skin can turn a blue gray and make your urine green and also very sick.
You can find this shrub of berries in colder Forrest with well dried soil, growing in places like Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland and Europe.

Confusing when things have the same common name isn't it? Bearberry is also the name of another plant we saw Arctostaphylus alpinus.
