The latin name for the Paper Birch literally means paper bearing birch. The bark of the tree is white and easily tears away from the trunk to reveal the pale orange inner bark. The wood is widely used commercially to make tooth picks and ice cream sticks. These trees are commonly used by Native Americans to make tools and canoes. They can grow to be about 70 feet tall and have several trunks.
