Alaska blueberry
Alaska Blueberry
The Alaskan Blueberry ,super berry, brain food, scientifically known as Vaccinium alaskaense. This wonderful little blue, berry is one of the most pack full of antioxidant berry around, 10 times the amount in a common blueberry. Grizzly bears eat these by the thousands, in a day! Along with many other creatures that munch on them such as, mice, game birds, songbirds, and black bears.
Alaska blueberry is a shrub that can grow to be 6 feet tall. the stems are yellowish green , with green oval leaves, pinkish flowers and of course blue-purple berries. Roots are shallow and do like being disturbed much.
Now don't mistake the Alaskan blueberry with the oval leaf blueberries. they way you can do that is the Alaskan blueberry is taller, bigger leaves and can with stand the wind way better then the oval leaf blueberry can.
You can find these fantastic berries in woodsy areas in Alaska, Oregon and British Columbia. They need moist soil and like lots of sunlight but can handle some shade. Blooming time is from April to May, and the blueberries are ready to eat mid July to mid August.
